Teaching Family Finance

The FEFE Curriculum

The Family Economics & Financial Education Project’s curriculum design differentiates itself from other family finance curricula with several unique lesson plan features:

  • FEFE curriculum materials are designed by educators, for educators. Every FEFE lesson has been developed and evaluated in collaboration with current classroom educators, the FEFE National Master Educator Team, to ensure they are engaging, effective, and relevant;

  • Lessons are activity based using the multiple intelligences to engage participants throughout the learning process;

  • Educational materials are ready-to-teach allowing for minimal educator preparation. Each lesson has hands-on learning activities, note-taking guides, worksheets, answer keys, PowerPoint presentations, an information sheet for student reading, activity cards, and project-based assessment tools;

  • Lessons are comprehensive with recommendations to allow educators to teach everything from one stand-alone lesson to an entire nine week, semester, trimester or year-long course;

  • Lessons are aligned to state and national standards;

  • Up-to-date and research-based as a result of ongoing collaborations with FEFE staff, Educators, and the Take Charge America Institute Research Advisory Council.
