Life In...

One of the most popular lessons in the FEFE curriculum. Participants are assigned a new identity based upon current statistics and are required to develop a spending plan. Each identity is developed based upon gender, age, race, marital status, education, career and wage. The statistics and scenarios are unique to the different versions of "Life In...". This simulation is built upon the same ready-to-teach model the other lessons are designed in. What this means to educators is that little preparation is required and multiple instructional approaches can be used.

A few ways "Life In..." may be integrated into your classroom:

  • Facilitator Guided: participants guided through development of spending plan process, discussing each expenditure category in depth; -Takes approximately 7-10 one hour sessions
  • Semester Course: participants complete in-depth lesson plans designed by FEFE about expenditure areas, then reinforce learning by making spending plan decisions within the simulation;
  • Workshop: facilitator introduces simulation by briefly describing each expenditure category, then participants design a spending plan; -Takes an approximate three-hour time block
  • Independent Study: participants required to read the profile information and research information on the internet or using local resources to independently develop a spending plan.

"Life In..." may be acquired through the Family Economics & Financial Education Purchase Program, or you may choose to download the lesson. You are encouraged to review the instructions for printing "Life In..." as it has many files associated with it and will take time to complete the entire process.
